Jeremiah and Kurdy are in Cranston to meet up with Jesse, but arrive to find Jesse nailed to a wall. Moments later, Jesse is riddled with machine gun fire, shot to death by a man named Michael and his followers. Jeremiah and Kurdy watch their contact die but are left untouched. Michael wants something from them and takes them both prisoner. Michael has taken over an abandoned army base, a huge arsenal of weapons, and the minds of his followers. Those who are not his followers are his prisoners and slaves. Michael is not satisfied with just having the army base, he wants to know where the End of the World is, knowing that Jeremiah knows the answer.

Michael proves to be a charismatic but terrifying host. Michael shows Jeremiah just how little he values them when he executes several because Jeremiah will not reveal where the End of the World is. Michael's lover, Julie, gives Jeremiah his first clue. Michael began as the leader of a group of young men. He saw himself as a success. Then, his self-image grew out of all proportion. As Michael sees it, Jesus, Mohammed and Buddha were all just regular guys who worked their way up. Now it's Michael's turn.

Michael's decides to up the stakes when he interrogates Jeremiah and Kurdy again. Michael offers the duo some of his own information, asking for the location of the End of the World in return. When they offer nothing, he shows them a video camera image of a nearby town. He explains that his weaponry includes daisy cutter bombs, six of which he has planted in the town. With chilling unconcern, he pushes the detonator, instantly killing the 2,000 people living within the town.

As Jeremiah and Kurdy, back in the locked gym, discuss the need to stop Michael's mad crusade, Julie tells Michael that she is pregnant. Unmoved, Michael tells his guards to throw her out the next morning. Julie sneaks into the gym and tells Jeremiah she will help the prisoners escape if he will take her to the End of the World. He agrees and Julie frees Jeremiah, Kurdy, and the rest of the captives. As Julie tries to fulfill her promise, the guards catch on and a firefight ensues. Julie sends the others on, allowing them to escape as she goes back to have a very personal showdown with Michael.
