Money, fame or happiness, you can only have one... what would you rather have and why?
Not much of a choice. Money is worthless. Has been for over 15 years, unless you happen to be one of the old ones who locked
themselves into government bunkers when the Big Death got lose. Yeah, there are a few people over the age of puberty who survived
because they sealed themselves off or were immune. Not many. Just a handful. Most of them seem to think that money is still important.
That when the day comes for them to leave their bunkers and return to the real world, all the money and gold and rich stuff they took with
them will bring the comfort they've dreamed of all those long years. They're wrong. A teaspoon of coffee or batteries? A single square
of chocolate? Those things are more valuable than any of the old money will ever be.
You can keep your fame. Famous people get themselves killed by the infamous. Especially these days. More than one community leader
has disappeared or been murdered by Daniel's forces. Made examples of in explicit, gruesome ways. Entire villages have been wiped out
overnight. Whole cities in the East run on slave labor, thriving on the sweat and blood and bodies of anyone who dares stand up to them.
As far as his people are concerned, fame - and the entire country - belongs to Daniel. They're willing to enforce that at a terrible price.
As for happiness . . . You can't give that away. You can't expect it to fall into your lap, either. You have to make it for yourself.
But there's not much of it to be had while Daniel's around. As much as I'd love to be happy - just once, really and truly happy! - I wouldn't
choose that, either. Because there are so many others in the world who aren't. So many others who need help. And the help of the Alliance.
Even if I could be given happiness gift wrapped with a bright red bow, I wouldn't accept it. There's too much work yet to be done. As long
as Daniel's still out there, happiness is finite.
