What's better: democracy or monarchy?
Democracy. I mean, it sounds good on paper. I've read some of the old books with copies of the Declaration and the Constitution.
I even read bits of the Magna Carta once. Not the whole thing. There were pages missing out of that book. But they were the
blueprints for the country before all hell broke loose. Before the Big Death destroyed all the governments - democracy, socialism,
communism, monarchy. All gone, leaving nothing behind except anarchy.
I've seen communities and towns trying democracy. Sometimes it works and everyone gets along. Other times it just turns into chaos
and a war of factions, and people get hurt. Some territories have kings or queens or emperors but they tend to deteriorate in a matter
of years. There are a lot more assassinations of kings than of elected officials. This is a big country and it's split into so many
fragments. Like splinters of glass, sharp and painful and broken. Looking for direction. Looking for something to piece it back together again.
Markus thinks an Alliance of all the towns and communities and territories is the answer. He believes in democracy and giving voice to the people.
Letting them have an active role in putting the world back together again. Everyone with a voice. Everyone equal.
It sounds like a good idea. Only time will tell.
