If you could invent a holiday, what and when would it be?
If I could invent a holiday ... now that has the potential to be a good question! After the Big Death 15 years ago, with the loss of most of
humanity, we stopped celebrating holidays. For many years, people fought to survive and had little cause for holidays. Plus, most people no
longer keep track of days. We have little sense of time with the loss of electricity and power, and immediately after the adults died, the
survivors were so helpless that keeping track of the days of the week was unimportant. We also stopped having states and nations and borders
that divided people into locales that celebrated local and national holidays. Most children are being raised with no sense of the time that
came before the Big Death, and would not understand the old holidays we shared as a population.
But we should create some new holidays. Humanity should be reuniting in celebration of the new world we are creating.
Some holidays I would suggest:
Big Death Day: one day where we all consciously remember our collective past, the impact of the Big Death, and celebrate the memory of our families.
All Births Day: since most of us have no memory of our own birth, nor kept track of days when children were born, we should have a collective day to
celebrate the continuation of humanity and society.
Reading Books Day: Basic literacy is failing and our collective humankind is losing most of the global knowledge that existed previously. A day to
celebrate and promote the sharing books and reading would be most appropriate in this new world of ours.
